(REVIEW) Baywatch: Funny and Entertaining Small Movies

*Spoiler Alert: This article contains a few leaks of the film that can be annoying for those of you who haven't watched it.

Story: 6.5| Characterizations: 7| Visuals: 5| Sound Effects/Scoring: 8| Final Value: 6.6/10

The existence of a film review site is currently very important role. Starting from Rotten Tomatoes, iMDB, to Metacritic, all of these are mandatory references for some people who don't want to be " zoned " when watching a movie. From the values given, all three can be said to be quite objective, although some are considered too partial.

Movies with good ratings /values can certainly be included in the must-watch list for the majority of moviegoers . Although not everyone agrees and relies on their individual tastes, this good value at least has a function as an attraction to make potential viewers curious. It's different with movies that get bad ratings on movie review sites. This bad judgment has a big influence that makes potential viewers think twice about watching it. This applies to films that do not have names, not blockbuster films or films that already have many series.

So, what about the Baywatch movie ? The film, made by director Seth Gordon, got a bad score on almost all film review sites. As of today, Baywatch has a score of 5.8/10 on iMDb, 19% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 37% on Metacritic. However, when you sit in the cinema to watch and have lowered your expectations because of the poor grades of this film, the opposite happens. This film is quite funny and very entertaining (with a note: you have a casual sense of humor and position yourself as a spectator, not a critic).

Adapted from the popular 1990s TV series of the same name, Baywatch revolves around the lives of an elite Florida coast guard team led by Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson), with CJ Parker (Kelly Rohrbach) and Stephanie Holden (Ilfenesh Hadera) as children. fruit of his belief. The life of these lifeguards becomes more challenging after Mitch finds narcotics in a beach area run by Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra). Sensing something is amiss, Mitch risks his life as a coast guard by investigating Leeds' hidden narcotics business with new lifeguards Matt Brody (Zac Efron), Summer Quinn (Alexandra Daddario), and Ronnie (Jon Bass).

Viki discusses the bad things first. Like the scores listed on these film review sites, Baywatch is a mess in terms of quality. The first thing Viki and maybe you will realize is the poor visual effects used in this film. Viki must say, the CGI effect is really bad and really deserves to be nominated for this year's Razzie Awards.

Not all scenes use CGI. There are some important scenes that look very rough with computer effects, especially the burning ship scene and some scenes on the beach. In fact, Baywatch is a film that depicts the atmosphere of the sea/beach. I don't know if it's because there isn't a good beach that can be used for filming or because I'm running out of capital to pay for big-name actors/actresses, dunno .

In fact, if you look at it again, the top class actors are only Dwayne Johnson and Priyanka Chopra (snapper in Bollywood). Unfortunately, neither of them could "save" this film from sinking. This film can also be said to have committed a "criminal act" to Chopra. A little leak, in his debut in a Hollywood film, the character he played was really evil. And, like mainstream action films , he died a gruesome death. She's deserved much better than this!

Baywatch 's maneuver with his character Chopra is honestly a bit confusing. Usually, international artists who are included in the film will definitely become champions, at least they have an important role in attracting viewers from the artist's country of origin. For example, like the film xXx: Return of the Xander Cage , which uses the services of Donnie Yen, Kris Wu (China), and Deepika Padukone (India) to make profits in their home countries. The results have proven to be effective. xXx is a huge success in the international market with a ratio of almost 7:1 to the domestic market (America and Canada).

After the intermezzo , we return to the laptop. The acting of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Priyanka Chopra, Zac Efron, and other actors is also quite ordinary. In fact, the chemistry between the actors is quite bad. Only The Rock and Efron whose chemistry looks fun and will make you laugh. Even the dialogue, even though it's cheesy , is effective in making the scene funny.

In terms of story, there are no twists or other surprises that will surprise you. Overall, the actual plot of this film is simple and you will understand. Unfortunately, this film seems sloppy and not taken seriously because of the many plot holes or things that don't make sense that will confuse you. This is also very disturbing if you are the type of audience who pays attention to details.

From the bad side, Baywatch has another side that makes you disagree with the ratings from critics (including this review). It's been a long time since Viki hasn't watched a movie in a cinema where the audience laughs all the time. Yep, I have to admit, Baywatch is a hilarious film. There are some scenes that will make you laugh out loud, even if you have a great sense of humor. Unfortunately, there are also some hilarious scenes that have a very dry and forced impression.

In addition, this film is very suitable for those of you who want to wash their eyes, both boys and girls. Baywatch has succeeded in making all lifeguard characters look sexy (except Ronnie). For guys, Kelly Rohrbach is guaranteed to make you hot with her sexy face and body. He also managed to show the impression of being "naughty" even though he couldn't compete with his predecessor, Pamela Anderson. However, Viki must say that the best among the best is Alexandra Daddario. Not only sexy, he will also make you feel cool with his blue eyes that invite mistakes.

BTW , you also don't need to be afraid to invite your girlfriend/wife to watch. In the end, they will also wash their eyes, really. It would be a lie if they didn't like Zac Efron in this film. So, instead of making a fuss because your partner is accusing you, it's better to just watch it, okay?

You need to be very careful if this film is intended specifically for an adult audience. You can take your girlfriend/wife, but don't try to take small children to watch this film. You see, there are many scenes that are inappropriate for children to watch, ranging from sexy girls in scanty clothes, harsh words, to adult jokes.

Viki herself feels that this film has great potential if it is made more serious. That's why, instead of wanting to be like 21 Jump Street with its silly jokes, this film itself is a ridiculous joke with messy visual effects, stories, and logic. Indeed, the TV series itself is also ridiculous. However, the film version is unable to compete with the charm and excitement of the serial version.

Like Viki already said, Baywatch was not created with the aim of impressing critics or winning an Oscar. This film is an example of a film made for audiences who want to laugh, be nostalgic, and of course, wash their eyes. Even though the score is bad, Baywatch still has weapons that keep the audience entertained, really. So, before watching this film, Viki suggests lowering your expectations and sense of humor so that you can fully enjoy this film. Happy watching (and washing your eyes), guys !
